This huge reef rises from the bottom of the sea in the middle of the Red Sea as an island. At Daedalus the landmark is the lighthouse, which can also be visited. The reef is surrounded by coral walls and strong currents. The perfect place for drift dives. It offers some of the most extraordinary and beautiful dives in the Red Sea. Just close your eyes and imagine drifting past the overgrown cliffs and enjoying the underwater life. The regular visitors are: hammerhead sharks, longimanus, dolphins, manta rays, napoleons, turtles, large moray eels.
Elphinstone is one of the most famous and beautiful reefs in Egypt. The reef stretches over a length of 400 meter and features two plateaus, one on each end. The northern plateau is famous for is beautiful coral growth and the chance to see Hammerhead Sharks, whether the plateau in the south is well known for the regular Oceanic White tip Shark (Longimanus) encounter between autumn and spring. Beside the plateaus, the walls on the east and the west side offer beautiful vertical walls with lots of soft corals and Gorgonian fence corals, due to the strong current which is often present. When diving Elphinstone, always keep an eye in the blue, as there are often pelagic fish passing by.
Very beautiful dive site with many corals and a 15 meter long 1980 sunken sailing ship, which is still very well preserved.
